you'd be surprised but most new published books are books editors and companies specifically asked the writer to make, many force writers to add certain Troups and write it in a certain way thinking they could market it better that way and they just kill the art

1) I’d listen to the feedback and shelve the book until I better understand the craft. Then I could rewrite/rerelease it… I’d also be refunding people lmao, and anyone who chose not to get a refund would get the revision at no further cost to them. Not full price, not at a discount… FREE. It’d be the least I could do to thank them for their ongoing support. 2) Pen name! At least it wouldn’t be connected to my real identity. Then I could still have that sense of security and privacy in my real life while I resolve the situation.

I have an art degree (long story) and one of the useful things I actually got from it was learning to take criticism. Every time we turned in our work we had to stand in front of the rest of the class and explain our thought process, then listen to constructive criticism from every classmate. We were also told to be constructive in our criticism. Use your failures as a lesson on what not to do next time.

The fact you even posted and made something that was in your mind for years is already remarkable and showed to yourself that I can make my story be a thing people can consume. Even if it had negative reception that shouldn’t be taken as bad because you at least got to hear critics and complaints. So now in your next work you can implement them.
