Being the sweet and gentle girl she is, she’s been by our side through thick and thin and we want her around as long as possible. Our Journey So Far In May 2025, we noticed Nilla losing her appetite and developing jaundice. Concerned, we took her to specialists at ACCESS Pasadena, where the doctor documented chronic mixed hepatopathy, pancreatitis, and hyperbilirubinemia. Her bloodwork on June 30 showed severely elevated liver enzymes (ALT 541 U/L, ALP 2285 U/L, GGT 33 U/L) and total bilirubin of 6.5 mg/dL—far above normal ranges. Since then, we've followed her Internal Medicine Specialist's recommendations—monthly blood panels, ultrasounds, antibiotics , Denamarin, and ursodiol—and even discussed exploratory surgery if her condition doesn’t improve. So far, her values have improved but remain abnormally high, and the cost of ongoing diagnostics and treatments is mounting. Insurance Letdown We were hopeful her pet insurance would help, but they denied coverage, labeling her liver condition as “pre-existing.” Despite pouring our savings into her care, every test, consultation, and medication comes with a hefty price tag.
