So here’s my first impression as someone who uses this stuff daily to run businesses, create content, and plan real life things like a European soccer trip for my son: o3 is starting to feel like a real assistant—not just a chatbot. Today I gave it a whole pile of research I’d already done—PDFs, links, notes about different camps in Europe. Then I just said, “Here’s where I’m at. What should I do next?” It figured it out. It searched the web, read through the files, remembered what I told it—and came back with something actually useful. I didn’t have to say “use this tool” or “switch to browse mode.” It just did it. That’s new. This is what OpenAI calls autonomous tool use. Basically, the model knows when to use browsing, Python, image analysis, or file reading without you telling it. That’s huge if you’re building workflows or making decisions with a lot of moving parts. It’s smarter, more intuitive, and just easier to use. Now as for o4-mini—honestly, I’m still figuring it out. From what I understand, it’s like the lightweight version of GPT-4o. It’s cheaper, faster, and ideal if you’re using AI in bulk—like generating content at scale, running automations, or setting up bots in Make.com or Zapier. Bottom line? We’re not in chatbot territory anymore. This thing is creeping into actual assistant territory. It’s early—but you can feel it. Over the next few weeks, I’m gonna dive deeper. Push it harder.
