@fortmacteacherlife: Teachers are often told that we need to ‘just do’ the job we are paid for. But what would that really involve? What would it look like if teachers started acting their wage? #teachertok #fyp #teachersoftiktok #backtoschool #abpolitics #abeducation
$86000 per year (per AI) at 7 hours per day (per this post) for 181 days (per AI) is over $68 per hour. If you work an extra 20% doing all of the “extras” it’s around $56 per hour. Not bad.

Teachers are extremely overpaid, they have a difficult job because they are babysitters now too but "school" is really broken and needs a major overhaul.

Teachers are not paid by the hour, they are paid by salary. They are also expected to complete their jobs as that’s they are paid for and are not paid on a time standard.

Support staff stepping in to fill the gaps…. Oh let’s talk about “acting our wage” on that one 😳

Can we please stop using ChatGPT to “answer” questions as if they hold the same legitimacy as actual research on the issue. AI is not a source to cite… I wouldn’t accept it in my classroom and we shouldn’t default to it in negotiations or public discourse….

Unfortunately…most teachers are the types that thrive with a challenge and a deadline…and push themselves into meeting absurd objectives. If they could only show how the bare minimum would actually look!

This is about Alberta. In the US, teachers are also expected to sacrifice themselves in case of the very common shooters. You can’t imagine how embarrassed I am to say that of my country 😞

I taught for 33 years - what makes a school are all the extras that this article refers to - the coaching the plays the extra help after school the practices - everything. Teachers do it because they love their job. The province takes advantage of that fact.

I thought most salaries were negotiated based on 2000 work hours. doesn't classroom time only account for about 1000 hours of instruction plus all the PD days and teacher conferences etc etc should be about another 1000 hours? they shouldn't be buying stuff for their classroom though. that's not cool.

Teachers everywhere need to stop volunteering their free time. Districts run on the exploitation of their educators and conditions will not improve if they keep doing this. Stop the insanity! Change starts by giving teachers a livable wage and supporting them!!

Maybe teachers should be paid on the quality of work that isn't indoctrination of adult concepts.

Why aren't those duties stipulated in the contract? You'd figure BOTH sides would want them documented to avoid future disputes.

Work to rule will just make it easier for parents to leave school boards to start private schools or have home school neighborhoods.

I hope all you teachers enjoyed your 2months off this summer…. Why don’t you go back for a few weeks, then take another month off?

yes but why not schedule a doctors appointment for 4pm rather than 10am when the school has to pay for a substitute when they're already paying someone and why take all the sick days you're allowed when you're not sick I'd call it abuse of the system

How about we mandate no unions for government jobs and no collective bargaining rights for government employees
