@mightypursuit: **LINK IN BIO FOR FULL EPISODE** In Western culture, aging isn’t treated as a process. It’s treated as a problem. Especially for women, getting older often means disappearing. Being treated as less visible, less valuable, or less worthy of celebration. But as psychologist Dr. Hillary McBride explains, aging isn’t the problem. The problem is how we’ve been taught to see it. And that’s part of the larger tension this episode confronts. We’re at a crossroads in the body image conversation. “Love yourself” was the mantra of the 2010s.
But today, many of the same voices who preached that message
are turning to Ozempic, cosmetic procedures, and other forms of body modification. So what’s really happening and where do we go from here? In this episode, we sit down with Dr. McBride and facial plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Linkov — two people often seen as opposites in the body image conversation. Dr. McBride is one of the most trusted voices in the field today. She’s written three bestselling books on body image and embodiment, runs a full-time clinical practice, and was praised by The New York Times for a “thoughtful, curious, and deeply empathetic” approach. Dr. Linkov is one of the most sought-after facial plastic surgeons in the world. Based in New York City, he runs a premier practice and has built a global following of over 1 million subscribers through his radically transparent YouTube channel. And if you’re trying to make sense of this moment, these are the voices you want in the room. They’re closest to the tension. We talk about: 1. What’s driving the reversal of body positivity 2. The mentality that Ozempic & plastic surgery are “wise investments” 3. The rise of self-objectification and using your body as your product 4. The erasure of aging in our society 5. How to make decisions about your body you won’t regret Whether you’re wrestling with aging, considering a procedure, or simply trying to stay grounded in a culture obsessed with appearance, this episode is foundational. 🎧 Full episode now available on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple. I'm post menopausal and I describe it like having the body of a child back. Just a body to move and play with, to enjoy vs a shell to paint and keep strict control over.

Can we talk about how husbands need to process this too? I’m all about this new freedom from invisibility but my husband still expects the old script and the old game. How can couples do this together esp when he’s gaining more social power with his beard turning gray as I’m losing mine

Also it needs to be said that the women she’s talking about, the one’s being discarded by society for “aging” and no longer being sexually viable includes women as young as 35. We are told we are being discarded because we aren’t as beautiful as we used to be but what’s actually happening is we’re being discarded right at the moment that we are beginning to cross the threshold out of girlhood into true womanhood. We’re discarded not for aging but for growing up and becoming fully embodied versions of ourselves. Society hates an adult woman.

I ran into an older woman I know. She ran for public office and won. I am thrilled for her, and it inspired me as well!

How sad that we look at women based on what men value, which is painfully shallow. Women are amazing. They bring new souls into the world. We should see aging women as the amazing, powerful beings that they are and appreciate all that they have done. I’m tired of the we. Men make them sexual objects, we don’t. We can reject that and know our power and worth from birth on. Not accept seeing ourselves through the male lense, which is damaging

I find women to be fascinating at all ages. ESPECIALLY as we age, there is so much wisdom that comes from our experiences, so much more depth to us. Life becomes richer, and people are more colorful and beautiful as a result.
