My older brother is trans and queen so when I came our My mum got mad and questioned how she had two 'gay' children and how statistically that's unlikely. Them when I asked to change my name on the collage register as a nickname because I preferred friends calling me that (not telling her to call me by a different name) she told me that I can't be trans (never said I wanted to be) and then she cried because this was the name she chose for me and she didn't like her name but never would've thought of changing it when she was younger. Yeah the night ended with me apologising a lot and I never did get my name changed on the register. 💀

Honestly I personally prefer getting a “cool. What pronouns should I use?” And that being it. When I was younger I hated when anyone made a big deal about it. I liked when people were just nonchalant about it like it was no big deal.

when I came out to my mom the first time, the only thing she said was "it's not my place to tell anyone" for some context, right before I said The Thingᵀᴹ i stressed that she couldn't tell anyone so im assuming she said that to reassure me. although she did then say that she "had a feeling" and specifically cited when I had an extended sleepover with my long distance bestie, so yeah, weird vibes all around

I said to my son "I have known since you were 4" he is now 17. I also assured him that I love him no matter what and that he has my full support

Something you probably shouldn't say even if you think it's supportive: "I know"
It can make the person feel a bit silly and takes the wind out of their sails - coming out can be huge for some.

If I was a father of a daughter who came out as a lesbian I’d just say “yeah I don’t like men either”
