@sermedmezher2: “Vitamin D” is Not a Vitamin #really Vitamin D is often called a vitamin, but technically, it functions more like a hormone. Unlike true vitamins, which we must get entirely from our diet, our bodies can produce vitamin D when our skin is exposed to sunlight. This distinction matters—especially when it comes to skin tone. People with darker skin have more melanin, which reduces the skin’s ability to produce vitamin D from sunlight. This means that, all else being equal, someone with darker skin would generally need more dietary intake or sun exposure to maintain the same vitamin D levels as someone with lighter skin. Understanding this helps tailor health advice more accurately and highlights why a one-size-fits-all approach to supplementation doesn't always work. #supplements #darkskin #vitamins
