Beautiful plane though. Those engines are so sleek

Its range was terrible so it accumulated lots of cycles. London to Tokyo for instance was a 9-stop trip. 18 cycles for a single round trip.

Again the rivets? Same thing on the Titanic, also a design flaw. Also British.

So when rocket travel becomes mainstream I won’t ride until there’s a massive scandal?

During the panic BOAC arranged PR flight with Queen Elizabeth II. They stuck her in one of these death traps to persuade the public the aircraft was safe. It obviously landed safely but what a disaster it would have been if Liz had went down in a blaze. Commercial flight would have been set back decades.

thanks for accurately telling this story, the amount of times I hear the square windows version! I live close by to where they built this plane and it's sad how little history remains locally.

Why don't modern Jets use the sleeker engine integrated into the wing?

The "super conny" the pilot was referring to. Is the Lockheed Super Constellation, a pressurized PROP driven plane. From the 1940a

Square windows were the problem. Cracks formed in the corners.

Dash 8s are actually pretty common on regional flights in North America because they use less fuel than jet planes. I personally feel safer on them than Boeings lately 😅

Yeah, my father was one of the design engineers on the wings and went up on the first test flight.
