Leeanne :
Waiting it out is actually extremely draining if they are narcissistic. It feels like selling your soul to devil and you start losing yourself.

I am taking the feed them what they need and wait it out strategy. Learnt the hard way that HR is not on the side of employees so have to tackle it my own way 😅

My personal experience is walking away is better than trying to outmanoeuvre or confront. Organisations that allowed for a terrible manager could become terrible in other ways. But if I was forced to stay somewhere, id find workarounds knowing what I know now about senior managers. Seniors don’t take well to feedback, especially insecure inept ones with low emotional maturity. The run on reputation, and will squash anyone whe threatens this fragile reputation, which their income hinges on. Deep down they know they lack the stamina or skill to lead correctly - which makes you a threat. You could expose them by being aware of their failures and able to vocalise them.

I waited it out. Played the game. Feed the ego. But made sure her boss knew I was doing the work. She was in the role for 11 years, I sat under her for 3 and just pushed her out. Her boss (now mine) said “you need to allow new talent to come up. It’s time to put you into a new role”.

What if they’re well meaning and you have a good relationship? Don’t want them leave, just want them to get better?
