I was 10 years old when I first looked down at my legs and thought, something isn’t right. Even at that age, I knew. The heaviness. The swelling. The bruises that appeared out of nowhere. The deep marks left on my skin after taking off my clothes. My legs always felt painful, tight and different. But every doctor told me the same thing “Just lose weight” I can’t explain how frustrating and confusing that is as a young girl knowing deep down something is wrong, but constantly being dismissed because you just have “big legs.” Years later, during lockdown, I started doing intense HIIT workouts. My body changed everywhere except my legs. My waist got smaller. My arms toned up. But my legs stayed the same shape. The same size. The same pain. That’s when I knew this wasn’t about weight. Then one day, I came across a woman online whose legs looked exactly like mine. She had Lipedema. She was travelling to a specialist in Madrid for a diagnosis and something in me instantly knew I needed to go too. So I booked a flight. Within 90 seconds of walking into that clinic, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Lipedema. I burst into tears. Not because I was scared but because for the first time in my life, someone finally believed me. It wasn’t my fault. I wasn’t lazy. And no amount of dieting or exercise was ever going to “fix” this condition. Lipedema affects almost exclusively women and is often triggered by hormones like puberty, pregnancy,l or other hormonal changes. For many women, it’s genetic too. I’m sharing this for the girls and women who feel like they’re fighting their own body. The ones who’ve been told to “try harder” when they already are. The ones who know deep down this is more than just weight. Please trust yourself. Keep asking questions. Keep pushing for answers. You are not crazy. You are not failing. And you are definitely not alone ❤️‍🩹
