What makes ADHD so cruel is not just the struggle, but the gap between potential and execution. Knowing you can do more yet feeling stuck is its own form of suffering. The world often mistakes it for laziness, when in reality it’s a fight most can’t see.

Yet, we’re expected to function in a neurotypical world. I can’t do it anymore. It’s only gotten worse with perimenopause.

I am so intelligent - emotionally and academically, I also struggle so hard with ADHD. It really is so frustrating and debilitating. I studied a bachelor of biomedical science and deferred to start midwifery. I will not let this neurotypical world stop me from getting my dreams ❤️🩹❤️🩹

This is what people don’t understand about ADHD. It’s not just not being able to focus.

I was diagnosed in grad school because my professor saw that the level of studying and work I was doing didn’t reflect in my grades and referred me for testing.

Let’s add to the discussion how perimenopause affects women with ADHD. I’ve had a successful, thriving career. Now I can barely hold a thought most days! I feel fully incapable of doing menial tasks. Or tasks I’ve done and completed my entire life. It’s debilitating. 😔

This is exactly my story in college but not in life. The adhd brain does not work well in school. I thrived as a wildland firefighter though. It is physical, exciting, constantly changing, and requires toughness. Find something where your adhd is a super power and ignore the victim psychology.
