So I painted the inside of our coop to be bright high contrast colors. We ended up decorating very tropical in the run as well. I have a baseboard that is very Moroccan tile inspired. they seem to absolutely adore it

the pineal gland is also responsible for them waking up so early and go to bed the time they do. The gland is like a built in alarm clock.

I know many of you have asked, "how do we know this?" so just to clear it up some: Researchers study their eyes using anatomy (looking at the retina), electrophysiology (measuring how cells respond to light), and behavior tests (how chickens react to colors and patterns). We know chickens have five types of photoreceptors (humans only have three), including one for UV light. This means they see a much broader spectrum of color than we do. These findings have been confirmed in poultry science and vision research (e.g. Presby & Barr, Poultry Science 2018; Ham & Osorio, Vision Research 2007). Hope this helps!
