That sounds like a scam. The IRS wouldn’t sue you. They’d garnish wages or put liens on bank accounts and property. It wasn’t served properly, so even if it is legit, they aren’t approaching it correctly. I’d disregard it.

The law firm in question would have the case number on file. You could call them and give the case number and ask THEM how much the amount is. If they don't know, it's a scam

I owed the irs $7000 instead of paying it they just took my tax return for 11 years when I got to the last year I owed just over $400 they sent me to collections in October. They couldn’t wait 4 months

So unless you were served you aren't being sued. You have to have someone come to you in person and tell you, you're being served. Normally you have to sign for it so they can prove in court you got the letter.

if it's taxes it's a scam letter. I ended up writing a whole novel about how legit and cool the IRS is. If you communicate with the real IRS they work with you. Also use irs government site all of their services are online because if you call they are so busy it literally takes two or three hours and there's nothing they can do about it. It's just legit like that

It should have a court case number listed. Go to the county website and search for it. If it’s legit it will be in the system

I would take it to a local lawyer and see what they think. To my knowledge, and I’m not certified in any law practices, but that does sound a little fishy

It’s a scam. Be careful. People are losing jobs, and are getting desperate. Always find the real phone number of the debtor and call them directly.

Was this from an attorney’s office? Some firms will use scam letters to try and get you on retainer. Contact your local court before the lawyer

I got a letter from a lawyer saying I was being sued. I was and just hadn’t been served yet. There is a way to lookup suits for your county online. Especially if you have a case number.

The state can sue, but if you’re already making payments then they shouldn’t. There should also be a lawyer call back number or a state clerk call back number if it is a lawsuit from the state

I would assume that they would just garnish wages??? IDK I might be wrong but that's what happened when I owed and didn't know when I was in PA, they were going to garnish my paycheck or I could pay it in full before they started that...

Even if they did the judge would throw it out cause you are paying, you could be paying them 20 a week and it would get thrown out

You’d likely get something straight from the state with case #’s or something, seems weird. Taxes get gotten. There has to be a way to check through Nebraska somehow.
