The Yosemite Firefall is a natural phenomenon that occurs at Horsetail Fall in Yosemite National Park during mid- to late February. The setting sun hits the waterfall at the right angle, creating an orange glow that makes it look like fire. How it happens The sun sets at the right angle in mid- to late February The waterfall is flowing from snowmelt The canyon walls block most of the light, but enough light makes it through to hit the waterfall The light reflects back into the waterfall, making it glow orange and red When to see it The Firefall is visible for about two weeks in February The waterfall starts to light up 5 to 15 minutes before sunset Where to see it Horsetail Fall is located on the eastern edge of El Capitan in Yosemite Valley How to get there Arrive in the valley in the late morning or early afternoon to find a good spot Plan to spend several hours to get to the right place You might need to rent snow shoes What to bring A small backpack with water and snacks, Proper footwear, Layered clothing, and A camera and binoculars.
