Listen, nothing beats having a horse that LOVES barrels like that. I miss my barrel horse so much. She just lived for that ride and when I retired, I let her go to the next home that wanted to compete. Because that girl could compete and I was not turning her into a trail horse.

I have an Andalusian that is natural in dressage, but she gets sick but still won. Her favorite sport? Cow sorting and cutting 🤦♀️so we chase cows now! 🥰 And she’s never gotten another ulcer.

we were given this guy after he went proper crazy trying to run barrels, despite being barrel bred. he's THRIVING teaching lessons and going for trail rides. some horses just dont handle pressure, some THRIVE in high competitive sports. part of horsemanship is excepting some horses dont like what we had hoped to do with them, and finding what they want to do in life and the people to do it with them

This is exactly what happened to me. I started running a lesson horse before I got my mare Missy and he was retired from barrel racing and didn’t really, you know, have the heart for it anymore. He tried, god did he try and I love him for that. But when we got Missy, it was a different world. Feeling the same ambition and love for a sport from your soulmate is a feeling any non-equestrian will never understand.

I bought a mare to be my eventer but she made it clear she didn’t want to jump. I sold her to a family who did barrels and she LOVED it. She passed the day before their first show but I know they would have done amazing 😭❤️

I started out barrel racing my dads old roping horse. She tried her best but you could tell her heart just wasn’t in it. When I got my own horse it was like a whole new experience. She wanted it bad and you could tell she loved what she was doing ❤️
