@taniaparfe: After winning an Oscar for visual effects in Alien, H.R. Giger returned to his hometown Chur, Switzerland to build something truly unique. A bar that looks and feels like stepping into one of his dark biomechanical nightmares. Opened in 1992, this was the first-ever Giger Bar. The design is raw and industrial, filled with sculptural elements, eerie textures, and the original Harkonnen Chairs, designed for a Dune movie that was never made. Btw, you can still order & buy original Harkonnen chairs that will be made for you. Many fans know the Giger Bar in Gruyères, with its famous alien-ribcage ceilings, next to the HR Giger Museum. But this one in Chur, Switzerland’s oldest city, came first. It’s also one of the last. There was once a Giger-themed bar in Tokyo, and even a Giger-designed room at The Limelight nightclub in New York City. Both are now closed. Today, only two Giger Bars remain in the world, both in Switzerland. Chur and Gruyères are the only places, where you can walk right into it Giger’s universe. He didn't design stuff for dune the original dune has heavy inspiration from him but he did do the original alien movie and they obviously kept his design concept for the franchise. He also worked on species and oddly enough poltergeist 2 😅 the dune he actually worked on was never made

he's amazing. sadly his work in Species was not used to its full visual effect. the train scene he paid for and created was a long scene that you hardly saw. stunning
