I was raised with chickens and seeing those animals that you have raised with your hands and to see them torn to shreds in front of you is horrible. It really does change your brain chemistry. You also have to understand the killer was simply another animal just trying to get a meal.

I grew up/live on a farm too. It's exactly this. It is much harder to kill something with your own hands, watch the life drain from them, clean up their blood and bury their remains than it is to kill something from a distance in less than a second.

Grew up in a hunting family. When I shot my first buck I definitely had “buck fever” at first, the gun spooked me and I was so psyched that I hit my target… it ran off a few dozen yards across a creek and fell. When I walked up to the body it made me feel sick and just wrong… I felt so awful being the cause of death for another creature🙃

i really think this confession should be more public. because gun safety and handling shouldnt have to be a grand speech. it should be the actions and experiences of the individual person that should sway how they view and use weapons.

my ex husband started a law enforcement job and then started talking about buying lots of weapons, including automatics, "for fun" - and I got tf out of that relationship quick. It was a manifestation of how much our values and world views were deeply incompatible.
