That's what happened to Esme Hewitt, who wrote about her experience growing up in the UK after being adopted from China... later, a creator read her words as if they were her own. Both Esme and the creator, Xav, have spoken openly about the sometimes complex relationships they have with their identities after coming to Europe from China. We reached out to Xav about Esme’s claims. She said she didn’t steal her story, as she is an adopted child from China too. She added: “I did, however, do wrong in using some of her phrasing to help describe my story and have reached out to Esme personally.”
