I think people, especially women, feel uncomfortable with it is because women leaving their parents behind to go suddenly live with their husband’s family is something that historically brown women were expected to do given the systematic oppression of women in the patriarchy that Indian culture upheld, and continues to uphold. Women have worked hard to break down said patriarchy within their family units and seeing someone choose to do it because their husband wants them to feels like a step backwards. What about the women’s family- do they not matter for the simple fact of having a female child? But yes, it is of course every individual’s choice to decide what’s important to them.
