Common examples might include: • Being called degrading names (e.g. sl/t, worthless, object) • Being made to perform embarrassing acts • Being treated as “less than” in roleplay (e.g., pet play, objectification) • Forced exh!bitionism or mockery (again: all consensual!) CONSENT IS CRUCIAL THO! Degr@dation play requires trust, communication, and clear boundaries. 🖤Consent means context: Being called a degrading name by a stranger = not okay. But in a negotiated scene = possibly thrilling. (this reel is just a skit!! don’t actually do this) 🖤Negotiation helps protect emotional triggers: Someone might love being called “sl!t” but hate being laughed at. 🖤Safe words are vital: They create a clear exit if something goes too far. 🖤Aftercare is essential: Degradation can stir up real feelings. Aftercare helps re-ground and reconnect. As a seggs therapist I have seen degr@dation to be used harmfully too. A degradation knk is about consensually playing with shame, power, and humiliation in a way that’s arousing, affirming, and fun for the people involved BUT some folks have come in and expressed that they have struggled to differentiate play from real life self worth. When handled with care, communication, and mutual respect, it can be a deeply connecting experience but with all things, we have to assess the risk.
