@beyondthemilemarkers: 3 things I’ve had to adjust to being out here and they all revolve around wasting less! I realize how wasteful we really were living in the lower 48! #alaska #alaskan #alaskaliving #remotealaska #alaskatok #alaskatok #leftovers #electric #water #livingremote

I’m spoiled to taking LONG showers, so that would be a shock for me. However, I’ve ALWAYS put up food to eat later. We eat leftovers for a few days. When we’re done, it goes into the freezer to eat later.

My mom used to take the leftovers and add them to a freezer container. When the container was full we made a soup/ stew with it. Doctor it up with a can of tomatoes or soup base. Good use of leftovers that you don’t have enough for a meal.

You could get a food slicer and make your own sandwich meats.

Thankfully led lights now only use a fraction of the electricity as incandescent bulbs from our childhoods. A lot of us still have that mindset that they use a lot of power but it’s not true. You may already have done this but you can find an online electric bill calculator and figure out the estimated cost to run each appliance and even the lights monthly. I love your content. It takes my daughter 6 hours to get to Anchorage in her remote town, but the only road out stays open depending on weather conditions and their groceries are about double in town, so a big difference!
