I don’t think a musician will ever get as big as MJ or The Beatles etc were. Back in the 60s and 70s to even the 80s and 90s in most parts of the world there was most likely 1 radio channel playing popular music occasionally and everyone listened to it. Nowadays every song ever made is available to you at all times. It’s not even a fair comparison

people forget that Michael Jackson existed BEFORE THE INTERNET AND SOCIAL MEDIA. All we had was regular news on television and fan magazines. yet Jackson was that huge without a social media method to mobilize fans. Love Beyoncé and she's significantly more political than Jackson, which is why her albums don't sell as much as Jackson did. And that's fine, as she feels like she doesn't have to water down her music to appeal to mainstream, mostly white culture. it's also the reason why she's not as popular as him, which is again fine. but yeah, she's not anywhere near as popular as Jackson

Agree 💯 Michael Jackson was before my time but I don't think Beyonce was bigger than him just watching interviews videos online it seems like Michael Jackson was a cultural movement worldwide I do agree only people who were there and went to his concerts can speak on him but I don't think Beyonce is or ever will be bigger than him and that's not to discredit any of her success

As a 40yo it’s difficult to explain to people who grew up with the algorithmic internet but I don’t think it’s possible to be famous/popular across all demographic segments the way Michael Jackson was because of the relative death of broadcasting. Our cultural conversations are much more fragmented now. Like, my Australian brother and I knew Thriller, our parents knew Thriller, our grandparents knew Thriller. We don’t really have that anymore. (Although I do think Single Ladies might be one of the last songs that came even close)
