@benwithgod_: I know yall didn’t think I’d remain silent while over a hundred comments fixated on the relatively obscure regulations concerning non-Hebrew servitude passages confined exclusively to the Pentateuch, while disregarding the far more pervasive, ethically nuanced system of indentured servitude consistently described throughout the broader biblical canon. You knew this was coming. #christiantiktok #christianapologetics #tiktokdebate #biblicaltruth #scriptureexplained
so many people: "the bible never says slavery was wrong"
meanwhile: exodus 21:16 "anyone who kidnapped someone and sells them, or is found with them in their possession shall be put to death"
that sounds like its saying the American slavery was in fact wrong according to the bible.

I’m a historian of the ancient world: the Bible endorses chattel slavery in the new and old testaments. YHWH and Jesus never once say chattel slavery is bad, instead it is assumed as natural.

People don’t realize New Testament slavery is essentially modern day employees working for business owners.

1) You said biblical, not just new testament. Leviticus is biblical.and it was a way of life.
2) They were allowed to beat slaves as long as they didn't die in three days.
Exodus 21 states that if a master beats a slave with a rod and the slave dies immediately, the master must be punished. However, if the slave survives for a day or two, the master is not punished because the slave is considered the master's property.
3) For indentured slaves, if they marry and if have children, the indentured slaves is free to go after his time is served but the wife and children belong to the slave owner.
Exodus 21
If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master’s, and he shall go out alone.
.
Sounds like chattel slavery to me.

But you start off wrong because the New Testament does speak of slavery. It tells slaves to obey their masters multiple times. God allows his people to take slaves after war aside from just Leviticus 25:44-46 obviously saying you can buy foreign slaves. Your next wrong part is the beating. God allows slaves to be beaten and says so because they are your property. He also says not to treat fellow isrealites this harshly (obviously showing the slaves were treated poorly) Also only male indentured servants were released. If the man was given a wife and they had children, the family stayed slaves. The man had to have his ear pierced like cattle and declare himself a slave for life in order to keep his family

“It doesn’t appear once in the New Testament” great so god bends his moral standards depending on time and context, therefore he doesn’t establish an objective moral standard.

Kyle Green230 :
So I’ll start with the ending. Your morality is subjective as well. Objective morality is free from a mind. Your morality comes from the mind of God and is still therefore subjective. So that point fails.
