If you’re not angry or overly emotional I would say it’s a discussion not an argument. Argument tends to have negative connotations.

Yea, no. A difference in opinion is not an argument - it’s a disagreement. Hence, two different words with different definitions. You can disagree with someone and it not be an argument. As much as I like the concept of this book, I would not use it with my child because what else in this book is inaccurate

Arguments are mean and mad even with it the yelling. Yelling is worse. Just cause there is difference of opinion though doesn’t mean argument but can lead to it. It could also lead to a discussion of seeing it from eachothers pov.

A non-angry argument is still an argument. If you’re talking and listening it’s also a type of discussion - a discussion where you disagree. It doesn’t have to be one or the other. It does have negative connotations but it shouldn’t - that’s part why teaching social skills, deliberately is important.

Everything always comes back to literacy. Comprehension matters. it's the understanding of the difference between when arguing is neutral vs when it's negative. language is fluid. it gets mixed and used so many ways. The better grasp one has on it the better they are at understanding the world around them. Being able to read is one thing being able to understand what you are reading is another.
