as a black person who lived in Northern Italy😬, Naples is absolutely where it's at! Very true that Naples is a bit gutter, but the food is good, the vibes are immaculate, and the people are kind and REMARKABLY less racist, Naples is REAL.

Team Naples!! It’s highly misunderstood. Obviously if someone is into super fake bougie type of trips then go to Almalfi but if you want the real Italy with true character go to Naples. AND there are plenty of places in Naples that are absolutely gorgeous. It’s a metropolis so yes there are some sketchy areas but all in all it’s awesome

Dublin, Ireland and Istanbul, Türkiye should be on this list. The EPIC museum in Dublin is how every museum needs to be. Plus the people were awesome and the food was really great. Türkiye is a bit frustrating in that they don’t have good information systems (ended up there when there were closures for an event & we were confused + locals were confused) but Istanbul has so much history and there is honestly nothing like Turkish food. I’m still dreaming of the breakfasts I was having there. I’d add a stop to Bodrum to take a day boat trip (or multi-day tbh) cuz that was one of the best days of my life.

I just wanna tag on here for a min, there’s nothing to see or do in Milan unless you like shopping! If you’re thinking “oh I might hit up Milan after Naples” you do not need to do that. I promise you, there are way better places in Italy—you can give Milan a miss

As a dutchie I really reccomend Utrecht, Maastricht, Groningen, Leeuwarden ot hanseastic (Zwolle, Deventer, Zutphen, etc.)! Esp if you are overstimulated fast. Food overall is very good (esp Indonesian, middle eastern and Surinamese food!) and as a Dutch person who has taken POC and Americans to these cities, I recommend these cities. I might be biased but my home town of zwolle is really ideal for a day or weekend trip :) nature, food and historical sights in these cities are awesome
