@houseofhismajesty: 89 years ago this week in August 1936, the Emperor of Ethiopia, Haile Selassie I made his first visit to the @The Roman Baths Terrible circumstances brought the Emperor and his family to Bath - Fascist Italy had invaded Ethiopia. Emperor Haile Selassie had fought personally on the battlefield and received mustard gas burn injuries. He left his country to appeal for justice to the international community, and settling in exile in Bath, sought restoration and healing from the famous spa waters of the City. Upon arrival in Bath, the Emperor visited the Guildhall and the Roman Baths " while Roman Emperor’s looked on" as the local newspapers reported. Today at the Roman Baths, there is a large photograph from 89 years ago of the Emperor's first visit on display near to the entrance.
