my mum (born 1964) would go on about the tedious journey she took to school, the scary r*cist man who ran the corner store and the neighbours dogs who were trained to attack her. one day while visiting my grandmother I ask her about my mums stories. grandma turned to my mum and said "Tracey you are so full of shit the plumbing is jealous. we lived a 5 minute flat ground walk from your school, YOU were the one saying slurs to the store clerk and those dogs only hated you because you threw rocks at them. you've always been such a fibber, what the hell." the day it was confirmed I shouldn't trust a word my mum says 😅

I was baffled as a child even. All my parents friends had average jobs, teachers, police officers, secretary, store clerks ECT.. They all owned beautiful homes in the bay area with toys. like boats and RVS. vacations every summer.

There were/are certainly good boomers out there, ones who fought in Vietnam and became major anti-war protesters, elder LGBTQ people who lived through the HIV/AIDS crisis and continue to be on the frontlines against bigotry, and BIPOC elders who lived through the civil rights movement and continued that work today. Sadly, it seems like the boomers in power are not from those communities.
