Why It’s Needed in a Lube Oil Purifier Heater When steam passes through the shell-and-tube heater to warm lube oil: It gives up its latent heat and condenses into water. This water (condensate) must be drained continuously, otherwise: Heat transfer efficiency drops. Water hammer can occur (damaging tubes). Oil may not reach the required temperature for purification.
