It's so hard in the workplace because they expect you to behave with that artificiality and act like the company is a church and you're experiencing religious ecstasy. It fills me with visceral disgust. Why can't I just do my job without also being forced to opine about the sacred words spoken by our dear CEO?

the work meetings where they claim “we are family” - my family doesn’t pay me to be around. you’re being manipulative. at one work meeting i laughed loudly at this claim and realized no one else was laughing and i got all these weird mean confused stares. 😑

I met my autistic friend for lunch with my chronic pain flaring. I was determined to "not complain" and "ruin" the lunch. I sat down painfully and tried to be all happy and she was all "STOP YOU'RE FREAKING ME OUT" and I started crying and saying how hard moving was, and she nodded decisively and said "that's better."

Though I have never been formally diagnosed I am currently looking into being diagnosed as an adult because I have this exact same feeling towards inauthenticity (on top of about 37 million other things) but this ties to my personal experience specifically. For my entire adult life I have worked in almost exclusively sales positions and done very well in them through being as genuinely truthful as I can be. However, I am never pushy with coaxing people into buying something because I truly see “sales” as scummy and just straight up untruthful. You probably wouldn’t be shocked just having dealt with it your whole life but there have been multiple instances at multiple different jobs where the manager has observed my sales style, noticed that I didn’t “push harder for the sale” (lying or otherwise not being entirely truthful or just morally aligned correctly) and then turn around and say “all of the customers love you, you have a real way with people, you should really use that to boost your numbers” LIKE WHAT?!?!? USE MY BASIC HUMAN EMPATHY TO MAKE SOMEONE BUY SOMETHING THEY DONT WANT?!?!? and not wanting to do that makes ME crazy?!??? Again I would never overstep and call myself autistic or neurodivergent without being formally diagnosed but it’s just one of a gigantic pile of things that makes me wonder and is pushing me to get diagnosed now.
