No preteen clothes, no kid apps, no preteen shows, no preteen music. They are music that NEEDED faze of being a kid who is transitioning into a teen. Now the kids have nothing and they go from kid to adult. Straight to Twitter, Insta, Reddit. Heart breaks for them 😭

And on top of this, parents expose them to so much at younger and younger ages. You have kids with adult responsibilities and then we get upset when they challenge us. We’ve unconsciously made them our equals, but expect them to stay in a child’s place at the same time

they need free third spaces and the public commons too that kids can be kids, safely, for free. adults need this as well smh but nevermind us.

Once companies started to truly tap in to influencer marketing that’s when the preteen disappeared. Companies figured out adult influencers could influence kids and marketing to kids directly fell out of fashion.

The main problem is that the media is not helping create these spaces like when we had Disney Channel it was advertised and they also was advertising their games so that made us wanna go on their sites. They don’t have tween celebrities that’s promoting age-appropriate stuff the last time that was a thing was with JoJo Siwa.

The loss of digital 3rd spaces for kids is why kids are overexposed on the internet, along with lack parenting

I think about this all the time. They don't even have TV shows, or music aimed towards them anymore either. No girl or boy bands or young pop stars. They don't have anything

Yes! And even in music growing up we had mindless behavior, omg girls , one direction etc. Like bring back boy/girl groups and teen artists that make music about actual teenage things

Oh I’m k-6 music teacher. In about 4th grade they start telling you they’re a preteen but they INSIST that means they’re not a child anymore. They insist preteen =/= kid. So there’s even more of a shrinking childhood 🫠

I’m a middle school teacher and their new spaces are the Asian stores where they can buy perfume and stuffies. Omg they love stuffies lol and being cozy. But of course they want to experiment with being grown- that’s not new. I agree there’s less clearly demarcated media/spaces just for them except for books. I also think adults make those spaces and things for themselves also which muddies the waters.

Yes. There is no Tween, Pre-Teen, Young Teen phase has been dismantled. That’s why they shop at the same places we do. I used to be on The-N’s website at 15. I was on Blackplanet too but I had to lie about my age for that 😂

kids don’t enjoy Chuck E. Cheese anymore slogan was “where a kid can be a kid”. Everything in American society is tryna appeal literally to every age group at the same time .. like no.. some places should just be for kids and some places are just for adults. We do not need anymore “family friendly” places

Ooo I actually strongly disagree, this is one of my fav debates. Ultimately I think it’s about the parents! Bc I have preteen siblings and work with kids and some families really do prioritize child friendly media and spaces. But it’s not automatic

I agree. It’s also why they’re getting destructive. My city just enacted a curfew for everyone under 18 bc they are destructive. Maybe if they actually had more stuff to do other than games they wouldn’t be so obnoxious.
