Charlie Stevens :
Walter Matthau was a hero of mine at 9 years old. I would make my mom laugh with my impersonation of his “Mount you on my fireplace” monologue from Grumpier Old Men, which was my first exposure to him. I read his biography at 12. He, among others, organically influenced my being a character actor.

Tremendous talented guy. I loved Bad News Bears, Charlie Varrick, The Laughing Policeman, The New Leaf, Taking of Pelham 1-2-3, The Sunshine Boys, et al.

It's so rare for me to find a clip of Walter that I haven't seen before. Thank you so much for sharing this. 🩵

Lost opportunity that Walter Matthau never played Woody Allen’s cousin or something.

Art Carney tells horrible stories about Walter add living throughout the whole run just to get laughs out of the audience .

the way he completely swallows his own laugh at the end is so funny to me. it's like he's reliving the struggle.
