@laurenwsanborn: Confidence is part expertise/knowledge but so much of it is HOW you show up. Little things like how you sit and your body language communicate sometimes more than what you say. When you’re in IRL meetings with really senior leaders, sit up straight but also back in your chair.
This is good advice. Also I see you do something I work on too…touching your hair and glasses too much.

Someone early in my career told me ‘ease is power’ and that phrase has really stuck with me.

This is such good advice. I’d also add, slow down your speaking and don’t be afraid to pause to think about your response. Leaders do this all the time and will appreciate you taking the time to think about your answer.

I don’t know if you know but now there is this thing called zoom. So an advice for zoom meetings would be more applicable in this day and age

This is hard to do for petite folks whose backs don’t touch the back of the chair, and feet don’t touch the floor 🙃 but you still need to find ways to project that same confidence

If you get anxious, practice speaking soft and slow. Speak slower than is natural for you. And softer (quieter) than you would normally. Other people won’t know any difference but it will make you feel more relaxed and confident.

It also allows people around a large conference table to see better (I’m tall-ish for a woman). It also gives you a more expansive view of the conversation and people’s body language.
