Personally, I think they'd be like talking about lab stuff and Viktor comments on a previous mistake he made, like minor explosion or smth, and Jayce would immediately follow through with "Oh is *that* what happened to your leg? :0" and Viktor has to be like. "No. its not— wait wait, you think it was damaged? In an explosion??? how did you get to that conclusion. No, I want to see your thought process now."

As someone with bad legs that constantly got asked what happened from all manner of people: The only reason Jayce didn’t ask immediately is because he was distracted by Viktor’s proposition to do illegal science. Everyone asks first thing unless actively distracted by other things.
