@cozy20s: Was gonna try use the scales to work out if I have enough yarn left based on how much a square weighs vs my yarn left. But the full 100g skein isn’t reading as 100g. Can someone explain? 😂 #crochet #yarn #skein #crochetmath
You should put the scale on a hard flat surface in stead of in a carpet. That might help. And make sure the whole skein is on the scale and you are not touching it

You cant measure weight using a scale on something soft. Put the scale on your kitchen table.

Is... is this a joke? In case it's not, 100g on the yarn does not mean, that the yarn is 100g. It's an indication of thickness. Meaning it would be 100g per 200m of yarn.

Jyllyag :
The weight refers to the thickness of the yarn strand not the actual weight. It’s like fabrics you can get jersey which is 240g and thin or more structured 320g.

put scale on a hard level surface, put a large mixing bowl on it and zero the scale, place yarn skein inside bowl so that the scale is definitely getting the whole skeins weight
when you put it on the scale by itself the sides are hanging off the scale and throwing off the weight

That 100g doesn’t mean the wool weighs 100grams 🤦♀️😂

try to weigh food or something else, to check if your scale is accurate, most likely you need a new one

Put the scale on a hard level surface, put a bowl on it and press tare to set it to 0. Then put the yarn in the bowl. That accounts for overhang.

Hard straight surface under the scale, if it still doesn't show it correctly it's just broken

Your scale are ok, this second thing may cause this. Put a scale on hard base.

you're weighing on the carpet, you should weigh on a hard floor as that'll mess with the weight x

If when you take the item off the scale it doesn’t return to zero something isn’t right. Could be battery or the surface it’s on, or some internal component issue.

You’re on a carpet? Scales only work on a firm stable surface?

Scales should be used on hard and level surfaces.

always put your scale on an even hard surface as it won't be accurate on carpet. I'd also put a plate or something on it, tare and weigh on that so it doesn't hand off the edges

Most thin scales have the part that actually measures weight attached to their feet. They need to stand on a hard relatively flat and even surface to be accurate.
