Exactly man, same with native Americans. Only a handful of their languages are still here with just a few speakers

Speak brother. That’s why Hawaiians like me come from a place where we would have loved to learn speaking Hawaiian but the public schools taught “Hawaiians” and starved us for the truth. Today I’m seeing too much ignorance from some Hawaiian people doing that. We should be encouraging each other but that’s not the case.

Especially when there’s so little who know how to, we should be encouraging other kānaka and even locals whos family has been here for generations even if it’s just a basic level

One of the reasons I love Merrie Monarch Festival is that it keeps the Hawaiian traditions alive and allows everyone regardless of race/ethnicity to celebrate it. I especially love kahiko with the chanting.

More than couple dozen but go on King. My mother was part of the teachers that started the first Punana Leo in Kekaha, Kauai. The kumu were women from Niihau who were the foundation of Punana Leo. Niihau had more than a couple dozen people who never stopped speaking olelo Kanaka.

And this makes you the newest of my favorite creators on here. Thank you for being you. I’ve never set foot in any of the Islands. Please keep informing us. More people love the stories and information than the people who just want to hate.

Try being named Mabel after the first Hawaiian nurse and constantly being told you can’t be Kanaka because of your first name..
