Literally happened today. Tee shot went right up against a tree. All I could do was chop down and play backwards. Took penalty, moved ball back and hit towards Green.

Can he not take a 'Back-on-the-line' penalty shot, where he drops his ball no nearer to the hole on his line of flight. This would result in a much shorter put than 60yds.

So can a player just “declare” unplayable like Michael Scott and bankruptcy? Is a player essentially just saying “ahh fuck, gimme a penalty and let me hit again”? I get why in this situation you wouldn’t take it but why is that option even available in the first place if it is clearly playable?
