@artem_pankovich: Low mileage, big problems: valve timing shift BMW B48 2.0 430i xDrive. • Today we are working with the B48 engine from the BMW concern. Specifically, in our case, the problem is a periodically appearing error about the incorrect operation of the engine. Namely: the electronic engine control unit constantly complains about the jamming and incorrect position of the exhaust camshaft. As a rule, the problem is the failure of the control valve, which is also the bolt that attaches the phase regulator to the camshaft. Most often, the metal mesh inside this valve bolt breaks, thereby blocking the free flow of oil into the phase regulator. This, in turn, leads to its incorrect operation and shifting of the valve timing. To replace the problematic element, you need two sets of special tools. The first set of tools is needed to dismantle the injectors, and the second set of tools is needed to set the valve timing inside the engine. Without a special tool, it is impossible to replace the valve bolt, since the phase regulators do not have keys and when unscrewing the bolt, the phase shift occurs in 100% of cases.
