It surprises me that I still haven’t seen any edit of John Logan to We Hug Now, but I’m more than happy to provide one. A disclaimer: this edit is meant to be from Logan’s perspective. We all know Garrett doesn’t have everything he wants — and even if he does, he still struggles with it. But Logan can’t really know what that feels like for Garrett, which is why I think this song fits his point of view so well. I genuinely think both he and Garrett have a point in every argument they have, which is why I don’t really understand the amount of hate Logan gets for his behavior. I’m not a fan of overstepping your friends’ wishes or decisions, but Logan can’t afford to lose his place on the team, and that determination is what I personally love most about his character. In the edit, I first focused on hockey and then on Hannah, so let me explain that choice as well. I don’t think Garrett sees anything he does as a “small thing that happened,” especially when his teammates are the ones dealing with the consequences. However, I wanted to show how differently certain hockey-related situations affect him compared to Logan, from the fundraising issue to having all the games they had played up until that point wiped out. In the second part, I focused on Hannah. As someone who hasn’t read the book yet, I honestly have no idea whether Logan truly likes her or not. I saw someone argue that he isn’t jealous of Hannah herself, but rather of what she and Garrett have together. I’d go a step further and say that what really disappoints him is the fact that someone like Garrett seems to get everything so effortlessly, while for Logan things never feel quite as easy — regardless of whether he genuinely has a crush on Hannah or simply convinces himself that he does.
