@greyncay: Every parent’s life has hard parts. The difference is, special needs parents see beauty in our children that you might be missing from the outside.. #SpecialNeedsParenting #dadlifeunfiltered #survivingParenthood #ParentingTruths #SpecialNeeds #respectall #Inclusionmatters
I hate when people say "I could never do that" and think it's a compliment. Like, what is the alternative option?

When someone tells me, “God only give special kids to special parents!”, I look at them and say, “well, how does that make you feel?” 🤣🤣🤣

The “God only gives special kids to special parents ”’gets me all the time. I always want to say how does it feel to know God doesn’t think you are special 🙄

As a mom of 6 and only one having DS I can attest, all kids are hard to raise. If they aren’t, you’re not doing it right. 😅

Advocating for a child with special needs is one of the hardest parts of being a parent. A NT parent will never understand. I dont believe the child is a burdern. Its the discrimination/lack of education/constant battle to provide the best care for your child.

People say such horrible things! My sister recently passed away last year at the age of 49 from early onset Alzheimer’s. She was born during a time where they encouraged mothers to put children with down syndrome into facilities. My sister was a little ball of sunshine. She was highly advanced. She went to school and learned how to read and write. She won so many medals in the special Olympics. She played four different sports and worked a full-time job at QuickChek for 30 years. She had a boyfriend, tons of friends and a much better social life than I did. People with down syndrome are a gift not a burden.

Both of my boys are non-verbal ASD. I get “you’re so strong, I could never”, a lot. I always say “you could never love your sons?”

I had someone tell me the other day that I got lucky. That he would rather have a "down syndrome child" than an autistic child. yes I do feel extremely lucky to have my son. But who the heck talks like that.
