My gentle parenting does have boundaries! To me it’s not lashing out, yelling & making them listen out of fear but teaching them by example. Permissive parenting is when you let your kids do whatever

I'm an early childhood professional for over 20 years. The things you described that young children need is literally gentle parenting. Gentle parenting requires a level of emotional intelligence and some parents lack that because of the way their parents disciplined them. They just know they want to treat their kids better than they were. But gentle parenting is not the issue and I would argue it's most important to parent that way when they are younger. Because once they are older, you have an emotionally intelligent, confident child that has the skills to understand expectations, respects boundaries, and understands that actions have consequences.

Just like you can do strict/spanking wrong. You can do gentle parenting wrong. It become permissive parenting and kids walk all over parents.
