most people are scared of the dark because back in time our primates were not nocturnal and slept during night and if they were awake at night they would be very paranoid about nocturnal predators killing them making them scared, and sometimes have more adrenaline. over time it became a behavioural adaptation and even though we don't need it anymore. it is still there
