As someone who likes War of the Worlds, in the 2005 film the uberpods were on fire and ray and Rachel were close to the uberpod. But the uberpod was shooting far length instead of shorter. So Robbie probably got lucky by the fire. He probably got a bit burned but ray and rancher were close and the uberpods were shorting long range. So they probably missed to lazer him.

We legit see the tanks and vehicles EXPLODE and roll down the hill on FIRE right after Robbie ran up. Then, tripods rise up from the hill. How was he not seen and vaporized or harvested? Even if he did somehow live, how’d he get to Boston which was, at the time of the movie, definitely more than 15 miles away?

It’s not unrealistic we just didn’t follow his story at that point. The movie is about it took an alien invasion for Ray to step up to be an actual father. When he lets Robbie go because he knows Robbie is his own man and he has to let him go to protect his daughter. We follow their story from there not Robbie’s
