Urgent Cares are popping up more in rural communities because they are the medical equivalent to Dollar Generals when it comes to quick medical care, because some things just can’t wait hours.

Natalie RN :
The big hospitals and cities are already busting at the seam with patients waiting days in the ER. This is ridiculous. I’m so over getting so many patients I cannot take care of with patient, safety, and quality of care. We need more hospitals, not less.

A rural hospital saved my husband's life. He never would have made it if I had to take him to the " city".

My opinion, No approval needed :
I think this is what rural people wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse. They said they were tired of paying their taxes to go to people who don’t work. I think Djt is trying to control the rural population. Now they can drive to those hospitals in those big democratic run cities if they even still have Medicaid. No worries. Lots of farm jobs close by to work at so they can keep their Medicaid. Win win situation! Isn’t DJT and Republicans owning the libs? So much winning for MAGA

L&D has been gone from rural hospitals for YEARS. Nothing new.

I think there needs to be more discussion or at least awareness that many rural hospitals are still private and run by boards of local citizens who know nothing about healthcare or running a business. It’s not just Medicaid cuts or lower insurance reimbursement; bad business acumen is what ruins most rural hospitals. Too often, these citizen ran boards run them into the ground and are too prideful to sell to a larger system that could have saved them.

Our rural hospital lost our L&D years ago. But at least we still have our ER, and the most important part, the helipad. Anything that is even slightly a true emergency gets flown out .

Curious where are you? I saw this first hand in a city I lived in years ago. So sad. Still so sad

Thank you for bringing light to this subject. Seeing this in my area. Worked big city hospital moved back home and work in my local rural hospital. After these cuts 1/2 of the rural hospitals in my area are seriously talking about shutting down. Its sad but the truth is its just like cancer, noone really cares or thinks about it untill it affects them directly. The other oart about this is that most of these hospitals prior to 2010 were owned by the local government and propped up by local taxes that helped keep them afloat. The local politicians sold out and sold the hospitals to private equity investors in most cases that have milked these facilities dry and ruined them. Most of these hospitals “back in the day” were great hospitals and even had more services. But hard to provide proper patient care when the leeches that own the place have that minimum expense max profit business model and are alonly worried “productivity” numbers.

I went into labor at 26 weeks with my twin boys. They are alive today because of the care we got at our local hospital, and the training their L&D nurses had to stabilize them for transport to a high level NICU.

We lost ours in 2020 and while it was a horrible hospital, the public was very reliant on it and there has been a big strain on the EMS system since then

Nah, rural hospitals are the only ones who helped my family during a very difficult time in my life. It's the university hospitals that are the problem.

I work ER in critical access hospital on Senator Markey’s list in a gerrymandered red state. We have very limited services but we’re here to stabilize and ship to higher levels of care. Our two neighboring counties no longer have hospitals so at least half of the patients travel 20+ miles to get to us.

It nots just Medicaid, it’s cms is the problem because of reimbursement. We need a new way of insurance and cms shouldn’t control rates for areas.
