its so funny that the writing style thar we are all taught (the academic essay) trains us to be terrible communicators. hiding the whole point of the writing in the 'conclusion' paragraph is such a bad habit we all get drummed into us

I write lots of emails for work, when I draft an email I provide all the background and supplementary info, then ask my question or make my point at the end, THEN I take the last line of my draft and put it first 😂

That’s so interesting but also half true — in The Culture Map, Erin Meyer explains that communication preferences differ by culture. In some countries, people are “applications-first”: they want the key point or recommendation up front, followed by the reasoning. In others, people are “principles-first”: they expect you to lay out the background and logic first, then reveal the main conclusion at the end. Neither style is “better” — it just depends on the cultural context.

Do you have any recommendations for autobiographical/reflective writing? As a counseling grad student, I have to write many reflections on my real life, current and past. Also we are always coming against narrative biases, the ego and brain (software and hardware) are programmed to take in data that is consistent with their human narrative, so if we say something that too novel, it is irrelevant to them, so repetition in communication helps to create an environment for them or their brains to actually see the relevance of our message.
