Iqbal is from my city. He was one of kind man, farrrrrrrr ahead of his time. He changed both east & the west. Allama Iqbal did like 58% of works in Perisan, he started in Urdu but found that he couldn’t express his complex ideas in short enough sentences in Urdu because it was still relatively young so he used the closest relative to it, Persian. He later turned back to Urdu as most people in South Asia knew Urdu more than Persian & by that time his poetry had improved farrrrrr more. He also did some in Punjabi & usually spoke Punjabi. He was very eloquent & clear when he spoke Punjabi. He didn’t wear fancy clothing, just regular Punjabi dressing. A Kurta with Dhotti & a Lohi on top. He also found flaws in the German language & made thesis in that language too. He was well learned in English & Arabic. He was given Knighthood by the English king too because of his works. He knew wayyyyyyy to many languages but spent his life to enlighten the Muslim youth.

People mistake Atatürk‘s scripture reform for blind copying of the west but do forget that Latin scripture was in the Ottoman curriculum way before Atatürk was born. The biggest reason why latin was picked as the sole scripture is because the inability of Arabic scriptures to recreate the spoken word in text + the country was illiterate and needed to be able to learn asap.

You can wear whatever but its how you carry yourself and what you say. The world is a superficial place, may be Ataturk and Pahlavi were focussed too much on it. The elite are able to synthesise different influences but for a large majority, might as well update their appearance to fit in.
