It was not a wartime necessity, it was a field experiment to see how the new weapon worked.

Just for those who think the atomic bomb wasn't necessary, the USA is still pulling purple hearts from a massive supply intended to cover the invasion of mainland Japan. We are 80 years from the end of WW2, and that pile isnt close to running out.

Japan flattened many parts of Asia… Manila for example. Does anyone ever talk of Japan’s actions during WW2. I’m not saying the atomic bomb was warranted but Japan was and is no victim. They destroyed many parts of Asia that effectively stunted many parts of Asia and yet they became an immediate super power not too long after WW2. Let us not forget this part of history as well.

It was estimated that were would be 1 million U.S military casualties alone in the invasion of Japan. Japanese casualties would dwarf that number by far. They are still using Purple Heart medals made for the invasion of Japan today. It was absolutely necessary

The main reason for this display of nuclear violence was more to do with Russia than Japan. Russia watched in horror!

I do not understand how a nation can tell other nations that they cannot have nuclear weapons when that said nation is the only one whom has used them.
