3½ years sober, and the biggest thing I’ve learned is this.. Sobriety isn’t about never feeling uncomfortable, it’s about finally learning how to sit with it. Most of us who drank or used were running from the same thing, being uncomfortable in our own skin. Those heavy emotions, racing thoughts, and feelings we didn’t want to face. We escaped because we didn’t know how to be with ourselves. Real sobriety is the opposite of escape. It’s building a life you no longer need to run from. And the only way to do that is by getting comfortable with your own emotions, the good, the bad, and the ugly ones too. When people reach out to me struggling, I tell them the truth: The peace you’re looking for isnt coming from simply stopping drinking and taking drugs. It’s on the other side of learning to sit with what’s uncomfortable… and discovering you can handle it. It’s a long process. You don’t have to fix every feeling. You just have to stop running from them. That’s where real freedom starts. #sober #addiction #sobriety
