You know, one of the hardest things to understand with faith is figuring out why there is so much suffering. if you really believe that God is good, and christianity is saying so, that He is love, justice, and caring, then why all this pain, right?
well, the way ihave seen it is that suffring was not included in God's original plan. the Bible tells the story of God making a world thst was perfect, but then people messed things up by disobeying. thru that, the brokenness, death, and suffering came along. so, evil is not something that is against God's nature, it is more like a weakening of something that was originally good. and there is one more thing, God's love does not mean that there is no suffering. it means that He is the one who goes thru it with us. this is the very thing that sets christianity apart. God was never distant from human suffering but He went on to become man in Jesus, went thru every pain, betrayal, torture, death, and then conqered it thru the resurrection. so, His goodness is not just a lack of indfference but it is a presence with us. one of the theologians, n.t. wright, who said, 'The cross is the place where God declares, "I love you this much."
Not only that, it is also about the past, and God is good, which also means He will give justice and restoration. the Bible contains promises that one day, God will remove all the tears that tears, death, and all the brokenness that come from evil will be completely eradicated. hnce, evil wont be the last spoke. the hope does not annul the pain we experience now, but it presents us with something to cling to, the conviction that love and justice will finally triumph.
there is also the thing of free will. God is good, and that includes giving us the power to make the choice, the option to love, or to cause harm. hwever, it logically follows that a few individuals will select to commit atrocities such as killing. it doesnt justify the evils, but it does help to pinpoint their origin. Alvin plantinga, a philosopher, put forward the idea that a world in which we have the freedom to love is better thsn a world of robots, not wth standing the possibility of evil.
