really great categories, I think birthday gifts to friends family averages at £50pm across the year and drinks at £100pm in London is quite tight

I am acc on 40k in London. 1k goes on rent inc bills (Zone 3), £200 ish on TfL (4 days a week in office), I save £500, and the rest I kind of just freestyle with for the next month - I don’t rly watch or count that amount, but I don’t live large so it’s fine. Usually have around £100-200 left in my current account by payday. Not the most glamorous life, but I feel happy and comfortable. Helps that I already have a healthy savings account from some inheritance and saving from living at home.

As someone who just spent the last 11 months goimg through cancer treatment I would HIGHLY recommend taking out critical illness cover now. You never know what is around the corner and suddenly losing your entire income is pretty life changing.

great vid just 1 note to make ...... emergency fund is recommended 3-6 months of needs not total outgoings and realistically in this scenario....... someone living in a houseshare so doesn't have kids, no mortgage and doesn't have a job where the income would be hard to replace if he lost his job unexpectedly, so chances of being out of work for long is slim and if pushed could pick up a min wage job easily which would cover "needs only" until he can get back to a similar or better income (£40k+) so in this person's lifestyle his risks are very low so even a 3 month needs only emergency fund is generous......... but if you had a £100k job that wouldn't be easy to replace (and a temporary min wage job wouldn't do much for your £100k lifestyle) or if you had a mortgage or kids all these 3 things add risks so then 6 months fund is bare minimum if you have all 3 of these risks
