@citybookspgh: Thanks to @teemoetayoh for getting the discussion started and to @Tankuverymuch for tagging me on the post! #Book #BookTok #bookshop #usedbooks #reading #antiquarian
So what you’re saying is the De Maupassant books in my “library” are misplaced. Got it.

You could also look at worldcat to see what other libraries might do it.

My local used store gave up and stopped organizing stuff within larger genre sections ... When you find something you want it's like winning the lottery

if a book has multiple authors you can also use the title as the main entry to file it under (essay collections, a lot of nonfiction, etc.)!!

Spanish names can be tricky as those combine family names w/o hyphens—eg Vargas Llosa, Mario & García Márquez, Gabriel. I check Wikipedia when in doubt ☑️

Every since I saw this video I've decided once my partner builds my bookshelves I'm going to organize mine this way, But maybe fiction and non Fiction and read and haven't read. So many options!!

I always use the very last name unless it's hyphenated (eg John Davis Smith is under Smith) since you don't really know if the middle name(s) are true middle names or not. Spanish names are the exception - whole other set of rules for those

I categorize by genre and then in alphabetical order by author. Thank you for the info about the title page - there are a couple of books that I’m sure I don’t put in the correct order.

I’m a weirdo and sort by size. So hardcovers grouped together from largesr to smaller, then paperbacks in the same way.
